From Follicles to Fabulous

To men, the key essentials to looking good mostly depends on what you wear and how you style your hair, and just like in everything in life, things don’t stay great unless you take care of ‘em. However, worry not, since there are plenty of ways you can prevent your hair from looking damaged and suffering hair loss, and here are some of the many ways you can.

Keep track on how much you wash your hair

This mainly depends on the condition of your hair. You should only consider washing your hair when you feel as if it’s very greasy or dirty. It is advised to not wash it everyday since your scalp might become dry, leading to hair fall. Shampooing too much will lead to loss of nutrition, so try and keep that to a minimum. Using a conditioner every other day will result in greater, healthier looking hair. Make sure to always wash your hair with lukewarm water or cold water, since hot water is more harmful than helpful for hair.

Protect your hair

Anyone who swims on a regular basis knows how much chlorine can damage your hair. Chlorine chemically bonds with the proteins in the hair and causes the cuticle (the outer protective layer) to lift, making the hair dull and brittle. However, you can avoid this by washing your hair with clean water before stepping in or applying a small amount of leave-in conditioner. At the same time, you should also take into consideration how too much sunlight harms your hair. While Vitamin-D is necessary for hair growth, too much sunlight might just burn your scalp. Perhaps wearing a hat will prevent that from happening. Hair mists may also be used for preventing hair damage from sunlight.

Frequent Trims

Visiting your barber on a regular basis will not only make you look better, but is also beneficial for the health of your hair. Regular cuts will add more volume to your hair and make it look thicker, as well as get rid of the dead skin and split ends. This as a result, will make your hair thicker and healthier in the long run.

Handle wet hair with care

Hair is really fragile when it’s greased up or wet, and a lot of us tend to think that the harder we rub our hair, the faster it will dry up. In reality, however, this just encourages breakage to occur. Instead of rubbing your hair with a towel like a madman, try to pat dry it.  It will definitely take a while, but it will also put less stress on your hair. You may also try using a hair dryer. Just make sure to set the mode to ‘cool’ and not to overuse it. If you’re planning on brushing your hair, make sure to use a wide-toothed comb.

Take care of yourself and your diet

This is perhaps the most important factor. People probably are unaware of how much impact your diet and your stress levels have on your hair, because they’re usually invisible. If you eat healthy and avoid junk food, you are more likely to grow healthier hair. On the other hand, stress usually tightens up your scalp, which makes your hair prone to falling out. In order to stop that from happening, however, various things could be done. Try working out or playing sports. Even doing yoga could be taken into consider. As long as your stress levels are under control and you’re eating your greens, things will be okay.
