Summer time in Bangladesh brings forth perhaps the most ruthless scorcher; and with it comes pollution and humidity. When the blazing sun is right above your noggin, it’s key to show your lustrous locks some TLC. While a little Vitamin D never hurts anyone, too much of it can do some serious damage to your hair. Luckily, living in the age of DIY, caring for your hair isn’t all that difficult; in fact, here are seven sure-fire ways you can get silky smooth hair.
Avocado hair pack
The sun strips your hair off its moisture, hence it’s essential to re-hydrate the scalp and strands. And with a simple avocado hair treatment, your hair’s going to be as good as new. In a bowl, mash the avocado and add two tablespoons of coconut oil to it. Apply the mixture from root to tip, cover it up with a shower cap and leave it on for 30 minutes. Wash and rinse with shampoo followed by a conditioner. Follow this regime once a week to get beauteous hair!
Cover up
You may not be a scarf-connoisseur, but in summer these babies will be your saving grace. Simply braid your hair and cover it with a cotton scarf; this not only protects your hair from the heat but shades it from coming into contact with dust particles in the air. With YouTube flooded with DIY tutorials on turbans, you get to prevent sun damage and look good while you’re at it. To avoid friction, choose cotton as your preferred fabric. If you’re not into scarves, opt for a hat or an umbrella; feel free to colour-coordinate with your outfit!
Aloe Vera
If you’ve got a green thumb, then you can grow your very own aloe vera plants at home. Among its many wondrous benefits, curing burns is on top of our list. Scoop out fresh aloe vera pulp and mix with a few drops of lemon. Leave it on for 15 minutes and wash with lukewarm water. Voila! You now have soft and moisturised hair!
Hot oil treatment
While salons have various hair spa treatments, you can give yourself salon-style treatment from the comforts of your home. Start by taking ½ cup of olive oil and three capsules of Vitamin E. Warm the mixture and massage the oil into your scalp using a cotton ball to apply evenly. Do it at least twice a week to keep sun damage at bay.
Trim the edges
Split ends break further up towards the roots if you don’t get rid of them, so trimming tips and split ends ensure healthier strands. You can either trim at home from watch DIY YouTube videos or get them done at a salon. Make sure you to trim your hair every two to three months to get hair that gives Rapunzel some competition.
Sunscreen for hair
Hair follicles are as delicate as the skin on our body; so to make sure they remain intact and unharmed, massage a zinc oxide sunblock cream onto the scalp, especially areas that are prone to hair fall or thinning. Sometimes, sun protection products that you use for on skin will work on your hair by rubbing them between your palms and gently combing through your hair with fingers.
Curry leaves
Curry leaves are a great source of nutrients. You can also boil the leaves in coconut oil and apply to your hair. You’ll need 10 to 12 curry leaves; let the boiled leaves cool for a few minutes then apply to the roots of your hair and wrap your head using a warm towel.
