Can Ronaldo lead Portugal to World Cup glory?

2018 has been Cristiano Ronaldo’s year so far. The Portuguese has been on sublime form netting 23 times in only 15 appearances showing doubters that he’s still got it. To give you a better idea, he is now the second top scorer in La liga whereas he spent most of the season out of the top 10 scorers. Call this his second coming if you want to but he is on fire right now.

The superstar was nowhere to be seen as his side absolutely collapsed against Holland

Two of his 23 goals came for his country during international break. Ronaldo showed Mohammed Salah (who is arguably playing on a similar level as him) that he’s still the GOAT when he netted twice to bring his country from behind, the question still stands that whether he can lead his country to international glory. A huge reason behind this is Portugal’s inconsistency. While they beat Egypt, they crumbled against Netherlands (they are not even in the World Cup), that too in the first half. To be fair, Portugal’s shambolic defence was not Ronaldo’s fault in any way and this was only a friendly but it’s going to be really interesting to see whether the talisman would be enough to bring glory to his country or whether Portugal would need a series of lucky breaks like they did during the Euros.

Regardless of Portugal’s World Cup run, the fact that Ronaldo’s age is having no affect on his form is truly astounding. What an absolute beast.
