THE STORY
Kamal Ataturk Avenue in Banani has always been identified as a culinary hub. Over the years it has been home to some of the most buzzing places of the food scene. The latest of these names to sweep foodies from all over Dhaka off their feet is Butter – The Bakery & Waffle House. There is so much hype surrounding this place, it’s unreal! So, we just had to go there and see for ourselves.
Upon entering the place, you will be greeted with its vibrant yellow walls and light shades, contemporary furniture and a pretty funky mural. In essence, it is a pretty chilled atmosphere with a pleasant vibe that sources from the chit-chat and laughter of happy customers. Make no mistakes though, as relaxed as the whole outlook of the place is, their food is nothing short of phenomenal. Speaking to Intikhab Ahmed Nasir, one of the owners, we got to learn more about what causes Butter to be as lively as it is. The entire place was inspired by Intikhab’s love for cooking/baking and his passion to continue introducing new and exciting innovations to Dhaka’s culinary scene. All of the produce Butter uses is bought fresh on the regular and they avoid the use of artificial ingredients as much as possible. It didn’t take much long to figure out the reason why Butter induces so much craze.
THE HIGHLIGHTS
Butter’s cheesecake in a jar is an absolute revelation but we mainly focused on their delectable and aesthetically pleasing waffles. To tell you the truth, it can be rather hard to choose what to eat but the Cheese & Steak sounded too good to not try. Tender and juicy strips of steak infused with mushroom and slotted in between crispy waffles. Talk about blissful, but that’s not even the best part. The sandwich is topped off with a steaming hot, molten cheese sauce made of three different types of cheese. The sauce was actually inspired by Intikhab’s take on mac and cheese. We then slowly transitioned from savoury to sweet with the “Go Bananas!” which is basically every dessert lover’s dream. An ice cream sandwich made with waffles, bananas, whipped cream and just the right amount of love. There were no shortage of drink options to wash the waffles down but we opted for the fan favourite “The Cuban”. The combination of lemon and mint leaf is will not only sooth your taste buds and will revitalise your soul – an ideal drink to accompany your savoury cravings.
THE VERDICT
Whether it’s a day out with your friends, family gathering or a date night, Butter has just the ambience and the correct selection of food to really brighten up the occasion. Be it sweet or savoury, light snacks or a heavy meal, lemonades or milkshakes, Butter has something for everyone!
