The World Cup might be just in the horizon but at the moment Europe’s two premier competitions is what is keeping the fans buzzing. The UEFA Champion’s League has its share of star power but the Europa league too has a few prospects with the capability of giving anyone a run for their money. So putting the World Cup aside for now, these are 5 football superstars (other than Messi and Ronaldo, because let’s face it they’re on a different level) who will most definitely light up the quarter final stages of the Champions and Europa leagues respectively:
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic
Arguably one of Europe’s hottest prospects at the moment, Milinkovic-Savic has been bossing it in Calcio A but he can very well emulate his form in the Europa League. With Lazio coming up against Red Bull Salzburg it will be interesting to see how the Serbian maestro does in Europe’s biggest stages.
Paolo Dybala
The Argentinian’s dribbling and eye for goal has seen him draw comparison to his international compatriot Lionel Messi. His heroics in Wembley that saw Juventus knock Tottenham out of the Champions League proved that Dybala can step up to the occasion when needed. But a tough challenge lies ahead as the Bianconeris will collide with defending champions Real Madrid in the quarter finals.
Wissam Ben Yedder
The Frenchman simply set the second leg of their round of 16 on fire grabbing a brace in Old Trafford to knock Manchester United out. Currently the second top scorer of the Champions League, Ben Yedder has enough ability to take the fight to Bayern Munich but it won’t be easy though.
Timo Werner
The 22-year old German hitman simply shook Napoli in the round of 32 and then Zenit again in the round of 16. RB Leipzig’s prized asset is in red-hot form and it won’t surprise us if he dominates the quarter finals against Marseille.
Henrikh Mkhtariyan
The Armenian lit up the Europa League for eventual winners Manchester United last season and therefore is no stranger to the knockout stages. He dominated proceedings in San Siro during the first leg so it will be interesting to see how he performs against CSKA in the quarters.
