On April 14, 2025, North South University (NSU) came alive with the colors and rhythms of Bengali culture as the North South University Social Services Club (NSUSSC) hosted the vibrant “Boishakhi Mela 1432” on the university campus. The fair, held to celebrate the Bengali New Year, was organized at the campus playground, drawing a large crowd of students, faculty, and staff.
The event was formally inaugurated by NSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, accompanied by other distinguished guests, with Treasurer and Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Abdur Rob Khan. The fair featured a variety of stalls offering traditional Bengali food, rural handicrafts, and historical artifacts. The décor and exhibits were designed to recreate the essence of ancient Bengal transforming the campus into a lively celebration of cultural heritage.
Attendees fully embraced the festive spirit by wearing traditional attire and actively engaging with the cultural displays. Folk songs and traditional performances added authenticity to the celebration. Members of NSUSSC dedicated countless hours to preparing the fair, painting vibrant structures and decorating the grounds to reflect the joyous spirit of Boishakh, ensuring a colorful and welcoming atmosphere.
Speaking at the event, Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury remarked, “This celebration serves as a bridge between our heritage and the youth, allowing the next generation to experience the values, stories, and vibrant traditions of Bengal in a meaningful way.” Mr. Iqbalur Rahman Rokon, Director of the Office of Student Affairs, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing, “The Boishakhi Mela 1432 is not just a celebration of Bengali food and heritage but a time to come together, share traditions, and create memories that connect us all as a community.”
Guests and participants alike praised the initiative, calling it a meaningful step toward cultural preservation. The dedication and hard work of NSUSSC members were widely appreciated.
