Reliving the incredible journey of Noor-A-Jannat, the founder and owner of Needlework
It was written in the stars! Noor-A-Jannat had a penchant for design for as long as she can remember. While her peers in school were busy obsessing over superheroes, Jannat was already designing clothes for herself and her siblings. The talented young designer landed her first exhibition back in 2000, through which she introduced her label, Needlework. Since then, there has been no turning back for one of Bangladesh’s most experienced designers. It has been a tale of dedication and triumph.
After graduating from the National Institute of Fashion Technology NIFT, India, Jannat went on to work with renowned fashion designers, Mona & Pali. With them, she participated in Kolkata Fashion Week, designing for the famous actress Bipasha Basu. Later, she was a regular in various fashion shows across India, including Miss and Mrs Kolkata.
JANNAT WENT ON TO WORK WITH RENOWNED FASHION DESIGNERS, MONA & PALI. WITH THEM, SHE PARTICIPATED IN KOLKATA FASHION WEEK, DESIGNING FOR THE FAMOUS ACTRESS BIPASHA BASU.
Her triumphant journey at the international fashion scene has been analogous to the one back home. Over the years, Jannat has been awarded numerous times by Prothom Alo and Onnodin. Consequently, she was also invited as a judge several times at the Prothom Alo Eid Fashion Event.
However, Jannat-A-Noor’s credentials as a fashion designer are not limited to the region. During her time in London, her brand showcased hand embroidery, free-flowing silhouettes, textured kurtis, kaftans and skirts with sparkle, embroidered gowns with unusual embellishments caught the attention of local fashion enthusiasts.
Jannat has illuminated Bangladesh’s fashion industry through her designs. Every time, visitors were left awestruck by the rich display of luxurious Rajshahi silk, Mirpuri Banarasi saree, Indo-Western patterns and Persian motifs.
Noor-A-Jannat’s contribution to Bangladesh is not limited to the fashion scene. Over the years, she has worked tirelessly in the efforts to revive our golden crop. She was associated with National Jute Day 2018 under the Textile and Jute Ministry of Bangladesh. The Honourable Prime Minister commended her work with raw jute materials (embellished sarees, dresses, jute bags, shoes and accessories). Subsequently, her designs at the Heritage Handloom Festival 2019 gave fashion connoisseurs a glimpse of Bangladesh.Acknowledging her journey as a women entrepreneur, she was awarded at the 2020 IWEC.
Noor-A-Jannat’s incredible journey from her school to the pinnacle of success reads like a fairytale. Founded two decades ago, her label Needlework looks to revolutionize the fashion market with its strong focus on the wearability and glam-quotient. With her two children by her side, Jannat looks forward to being at the forefront of the shifting dynamics of Bangladesh’s fashion scene.
