Socks were once upon a time a luxury item owned only by royals. In today’s time, they are readily available and are used as an instrument to punch up one’s mundane attire.
Socks never get as much attention as they do in winter, when it is not only worn as a style statement but as a necessity. Here are some of the socks you should opt for and how you can style them to make the most of your outfit this winter.
Socks made from natural fibres come with comfort and breathability. This allows you to walk for miles in them and not break a sweat and stink the slightest.
Up-Up and Away
Opt for long, over the calf socks. Not only will they add an extra layer of warmth this winter, they will also not slip off from time to time.
Avoid Twinning
When it comes to matching your outfit with your socks, match it with your pants. Be wary of not matching it completely with your trousers but make sure that it is in the same colour frame. A smart pick would be to have a pair of two toned socks. The beauty of such socks (if picked carefully) is that it harmonises well with a myriad of pant and shoe combinations allowing you to wear them to parties or at work.
Silk’s Reserved
As the title suggests, silk socks are reserved strictly for formal wear. This is where it starts and this is where it ends.
White is Reserved Too
Until or unless you’re Rafael Nadal or are at the gym, you’re not permitted to wear white socks. White socks are strictly reserved for when you’re taking part in physical activities. Wearing them with casual wear or with a suit will look awfully off and inappropriate.
The Make
Socks made from natural fibres come with comfort and breathability. This allows you to walk for miles in them and not break a sweat and stink the slightest. However, socks made from 100% natural fibres are hard to find and so, cotton blends make a good substitute. Socks made from wool should be avoided. They can be uncomfortable and are not at all suitable for our weather, not even towards the north.
Crazy Stupid Socks
Don’t be afraid to go all Willy Wonka with your socks. Socks can be a great element for expressing your personality and to play around with different, eccentric styles. Go for vibrant colours, crazy patterns, and funky artwork, just let it all lose; it’s your time
to shine.
