A closer look into Dhaka’s Instagram food blogging scene

Dhaka’s food scene has truly blossomed over the past couple of months. Global powerhouses are trying to penetrate the local market and local restaurateurs are giving them a run for their money with their culinary innovation. It’s beautiful. Chaotic at times but beautiful and the best part is, we get to enjoy the best of both worlds. Amidst all of this are individuals like you and I, who are fueling the food scene through their love and passion for food, photography, writing, cooking etc. We got a chance to speak to few such individuals to get a closer look into the world of food blogging.

The picture above is from the account of  Shababa Suzana The genius behind the instagram account @fatduck21, Shababa has been setting social media alight with her delicious recipes and aesthetically pleasing photos. Speaking to her, Hashtag Delish got to know more about her journey and her thoughts about the future:

“The food scene in Bangladesh has been quite an upsetting one, when compared to how highly our country has always been appreciated over hospitality. But over the last couple of months, the food scene in this country has improved to a great extent. It feels really good to see people talk about food, invest time in verifying flavours and textures, and most importantly, common people showing love and interest towards the reviews and having their taste buds explore more over words of bloggers, where, I think, Instagram has had the biggest role, next to the review bloggers themselves. If you’d ask me what picture I see of the food scenes of this country earlier this year, maybe I’d answer something like, ‘I would like to bring a food revolution in this country and blow minds of people, giving them a taste of all the possibilities food has to offer.” But now if you do, I’ll say, “I see a food revolution coming, and I love it, and I’d like to see more of it, having myself as a part of the move.’

Our country needs a move in here, and I hope someday, parents of our country  won’t mind sending their children to gastronomy classes or culinary schools; and generations will aim to be aspiring chefs”

Another intriguing personality in the realms of Bangladeshi food bloggers is Mahbub Joy, better known as @bespokefoodye. His food reviews are simply unreal. His in-depth knowledge and vivid descriptions will allow you to literally contemplate the taste of food without actually having to taste it. This is how it all started for him:

“I started uploading food pics on instagram so that can keep track of the items I have tried so far. After a while I realized I should start writing about them so that I can keep them as a memoir or more like a diary. Then I started writing captions back in 2017 and to write captions I had to do a lot of research. Whenever I try a new item, I try to remember the flavors, the frangrance of it. All these opened up a door of a world to me. A world where flavors, spices, fragrance are main elements like air, water in our world. Slowly I started falling in love with this world. The infinite possibilities of flavors and tastes made me curious and it inspired me to write foodblogs.”

“I love food and I am trying to help others by exploring it, the best part is I enjoy it a lot while getting to taste different kind of food and taking photos” – Suraiya Hossain aka @ibrewmylifewithfood

So you see, the food and food blogging industries go hand in hand. Both are expanding simultaneously and, according to @lit.eat, our current generation is the major driving force of the both of the aforementioned fields:

“In this generation, food is considered as an art and people show enthusiasm and effort to discover amazing foods more than any time before. Cities are booming with newer cafes and restaurants and often common people find it difficult where to invest their hard-earned money. That is the time they seek the help of a good food blogger. So, I definitely think future in food blogging is shining if they work hard on increasing their potency and expertise in this field”, they stated.
