Surprise your loved ones today with some Gajar Halwa

The holy night of Shab-e-Barat is almost incomplete if we do not indulge ourselves in some halwa. But as sad as it sounds, the tradition of making halwa is slowly turning into a lost art but. But worry not, we bring you a simple DIY guide to making the finest Gajar halwa. Give your loved ones a pleasant surprise and turn tonight into a sweet occassion!

Ingredients:

  • Carrot (grated) 1500g
  • Sugar 200 g
  • Milk 300 mL
  • Cashew nut (chopped) 25 g
  • Almond (chopped) 25 g
  • Ghee 2-3 tbsp

Method:

  1. Heat the ghee in a non-stick pan in medium heat and add the grated carrots. Mix the carrot with the ghee using a spatula.
  2. Keep stirring for 20-25 minutes in a medium flame.
  3. Increase the flame to high once the carrot is fully cooked for 8-10 minutes, keep stirring.
  4. Reduce the flame to medium, and add the milk while mixing properly.
  5. Cover the pan and cook it for 20 minutes while stirring in between.
  6. Next add the sugar and the nuts and mix well.
  7. Cover the pan and keep cooking it for 10-15 minutes on low flame, keep stirring in between.
  8. Increase the flame and stir for 2-3 minutes.
  9. Turn off the flame and serve in a dish.
  10. Garnish with nuts.
