Uber has been the answer to the prayers for all with unguaranteed transport. It’s easy to use app and discount offerings has made it a hit amongst the Dhaka population. But for all it’s high there has been numerous lows.
On June 3rd, 2017, complaints were made by a female customer of having faced physical assault by the driver. Eventually Uber authorities banned the driver based on this compliant. But this unearthed the question that many female users of this app had feared to ask: Will we be safe when using this app?
Amidst the bad publicity this incident garnered for Uber, it forced them to include an in-app national helpline number. Granted that Uber did drag their feet regarding this, but as I like to say: better late than never.
The number, 999, when dialed will connect the rider to the government’s control room. Once there further, the person can select,’0’ to speak to a government agent, ‘1’ for Ambulance, ‘2’ for Fire Service and ‘3’ for Police.
‘999’ is a toll free number and all the rider has to do is press ‘Call Now’ to connect with the ICT Division help desk. Once selected the number ‘999’ will be prompted in the dialer phone.
Safe travels to all!
