Standard Chartered launches mobile apps to make banking more convenient for its customers

Dhaka May 6, 2017: Standard Chartered Bangladesh has recently announced the launch of two new smart phone apps, ‘SC Mobile Bangladesh’ and the ‘Good Life’, designed to make banking more convenient for its customers and help them make the most of their banking privileges.

‘SC Mobile Bangladesh’ brings together a wide range of retail banking services to the smart phones of our customers. The ‘Good Life’ mobile app gives our customers access to best-in-class privileges at over 3000 partner outlets in Bangladesh, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei, United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Vietnam. Both of these apps are available on iOS and Android platforms.

The apps were unveiled at an idea exchange session on technological convergence in the financial and telecommunications sectors. This was a unique event where for the first time, top leaders from the three largest telecommunications operators participated in a dialogue on how collaboration across the industries will reshape the consumer experience in the near future.

Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer, Robi Axiata Limited; Yasir Azman, Chief Marketing Officer and Acting Chief Executive Officer, Grameenphone; and Taimur Rahman, Chief Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Officer, Banglalink graced the occasion as guests of honour.

“Digital lifestyle is happening all around us. In the near future, our economy is going be cashless and cardless, where all transactions will be conducted through apps. The question is: are we ready?” said Mahtab Uddin Ahmed.

Yasir Azman added, “The financial institutions and mobile operators should join forces to work together and with their respective regulators to remove the barriers that are deterring mobile financial services from taking shape. There are tremendous possibilities to collaborate and leapfrog the digital development in the country if we can drive the convergence of the mobile and finance streams faster. I would like to congratulate Standard Chartered on the launch of SC Bangladesh app and the Good Life app, and expect to see these apps gain immense popularity among the users.”

“I think there is a fear factor that comes into play at times when we talk about collaboration across the industries like telecom and banking. But to achieve true financial inclusion, we should come together and offer financial products for the unbanked, through diverse channels. This will help make the economy stronger in future,” emphasized Taimur Rahman.

The guests of honour joined the senior management team from Standard Chartered Bangladesh, represented by Abrar A. Anwar, Chief Executive Officer; Aditya Mandloi, Country Head of Retail; and Naser Ezaz Bijoy, Country Head of Global Banking, in launching the two apps.

“The innovations we are seeing across the board are opening up a whole new class of opportunities, where a collaborative ecosystem can come together to deliver solutions that are built with the customer’s needs at heart, delivering real value,” said Abrar A. Anwar, CEO, Standard Chartered Bangladesh.
