To capture Wasfia Nazreen at the edge of glory, Apple made a 13-minute short film about her journey of scaling the Seven Summits, shot entirely on an iPhone 6s. Among many talented documentary shorts from filmmakers around the world, Wasfia’s heartwarming tale of bravery made it to the curated collection of National Geographic’s Short Film Showcase. Here are five inspiring moments from the video.
The transition
The premise shows Wasfia in the bustling streets of Nepal. Suddenly, the scene shifts to the sight of her standing at the top of a mountain lulled by the sound of wind under the blue skies. This shot will definitely send chills down your spine.
The push
There is an eerie silence when she mentions the campaign; that explained how much faith (or the lack of it) people had in her abilities. But her spirits were raised in the company of, Ngima, her instructor.
The demise
Unfortunately, her friend meets his untimely death in a motorbike accident and we see Wasfia breaking into tears as she talks about it.
Take me home
The video opens with Wasfia sharing about losing her home at a tender age. But the definition of ‘home’ varies from person to person. In a transitioning shot, the video shows Ngima’s beautiful little daughters playing when she says “For those of us who feel like orphans, know that this home is everywhere we want it to be.”
The waving flag
Last but not the least; the moment she waves Bangladesh’s National flag, our hearts swell up with pride.
