While it is true that laptops, phones and tabs have replaced toy cars, Lego and action figures in recent times, they have also intruded a very precious habit that existed among children- reading!
You can start teaching your children to read for pleasure the moment they are born. This takes us back to the time when parents would read to their children despite knowing that their children were too little to understand a single word the parents said. However, the gesture and practice of reading for pleasure and it being a means of interaction are what instilled the habit of reading among children as they grew up.
Unfortunately, there aren’t many children you will see who are interested in story books? Not just toys, but fairy tales are also being replaced by Angry Birds and Candy Crush.
Parents barely have the time to help their children with homework, let alone play with them. And to compensate for the lack of time, they hand over their electronic devices to their children to keep them distracted, unaware of the unhealthy consequences that come with it.
The portrayal of this harsh truth is spot on in the Kid’s Paradise’s promotional video, however, don’t you wish it also paid attention to the dying practice of reading and how books were the means of interaction between parents and their children?
Just like toys, reading should also be a recreation and a playful course of action. It is no news that books allow your child’s imagination to run wild and help them become more creative as they grow up. Making children feel that books are not only associated with schools and homework but also serves as a playful and fun form of recreation is very crucial. And this habit can only be nurtured in a child by interacting with them through reading. Take a quiz or draw a story with them- the options to bring back reading to their lives is endless!
