A day to celebrate love; the history of how Valentine’s Day came about had nothing to do with roses, chocolates and bouquets of flowers. It was in fact a story of faith, knowledge and trust. Valentinus, a believer of Christ, was sentenced to death for not following Claudius the Roman emperor’s orders to worship twelve gods. In his last few weeks, his blind daughter Julia visited him daily and Valentinus shared with her stories of the roman history, nature and God. The day before his death sentence, she wished to see the world and experience Valentinus’ stories through her eyes. Valentinus asked her to have faith and by a miracle a light came into the prison cell and she opened her eyes to see the world for the first time.
On the 14th of February, the sentence of Valentinus was carried out and he was buried in the Church of Praxedes in Rome. It is said that Julia planted a pink-blossomed almond tree near his grave. To this day, the tree remains a symbol of undying love and faithful friendship. Therefore on the 14th of February the entire world celebrates love in all its magnanimity. The world rides on faith and hope and at the end of the day, its faith that keeps one going.
A single mother running two jobs may have absolutely no time to shower her children with love. Tired, she returns home night after night and misses the goodnight kisses.
The husband and wife may become so neck-deep in work, that in the chaos they forget about the love that brought them together in the first place. While it’s argued that we don’t need a day to shower our beloved with affection, you can still use this day to do something extra special for your loved ones. Valentine’s Day, if not anything else, could be your excuse to make a cake for your mom or buy a present your wife had her eyes on for a while. It could be as simple as writing a letter and as grand as getting away from the city for a day’s trip. This is the time to really feel the warmth of love, to care for the person who has been with you through thick and thin.
There are many ways to celebrate this day. As the streets are lined with Krishnochura and Polash, as the wind is lined with the scent of spring blooms, the time is here and now. It doesn’t matter if you both have forgotten your yearly anniversaries, if he has dulled down on the ‘I love you’ texts, or if she hasn’t been able to celebrate your birthday last year. This is the day when you forget the past and enjoy your present, and to do that, Jovago.net has delightful little treats lined up for all you lovebirds!
