Trained at Austin Hair and Cosmetology College, Razia Hossain is an admired hairstylist in the United States. Specialising in men’s haircut and styling, Razia is currently employed by Sportsclips, USA, as one of their top hairdressers. The award winning hairstylist also happens to be the sister of Quazi Quamrul Islam, hairstylist at Ban Thai Barber & Beauty Salon.
Having to deal with a variety of hairstyles, Razia finds it cumbersome to pick out a style that she personally likes. “Being a professional, it is particularly hard for me to select just one style. All I can say is that, there’s no such style that goes well with every type of face. When it comes to my clients, I consult with them first to create a look that actually suits them instead of following the trends,” she says.
Further into the conversation, Razia mentioned that her mother shaped her into being who she is today. Apart from her mother, her interest towards hairstyling was inspired by Princess Diana’s style. “I grew up watching her and the various styles she would sport; she was an icon for me as she was for the rest of the world. Hairstylists all over the world coined styles after her, such as the Diana cut which also known as the pageboy cut,” she exclaims.
In the context of hair care, Razia has a tip or two that she religiously follows. “Shampooing the hair regularly is a must for the Bangladeshi weather. Using a shampoo according to ones hair type is something one much factor in. A general shampoo is actually harmful and may cause deterioration in hair quality. Thus, we need to analyse our hair first with the help of a professional and then purchase shampoos based on their recommendation,” she informs.
By the end of the conversation, Razia shares her vision of working with the beauty industry in Bangladesh. “I have come here with big plans and I would certainly like to contribute in the field of hairstyling,” says the hopeful stylist.
