Dhaka’s growing appetite for third spaces and in-person engagement has found an exciting new outlet in Artefactum.  With a broad vision to develop a sustained cultural space aimed at strengthening connections between artists and audiences and bridging cultural divides within Dhaka, the platform announced its presence on the scene with a vibrant inaugural art exhibition, which kicked off on December 12.

Conceived in relation to its venue, KOA, a yoga and meditation centre in Banani, the exhibition featured works by 23 artists: Aidha Cader, Anisuzzaman, Asma Akber, Dipu Sadik, Gulshan Hossain, Farzana Rahman Bobby, Fazeela Morshed, Imran Hasan, Jamal Ahmed, Jolock Saha, Kuhu, Kanak Chanpa Chakma, Maksuda Iqbal Nipa, Marufa A Chowdhury, Mishael Ahmed, Omi Islam, Priyan Iqbal, Rokeya Sultana, Sabrina Islam, Sabrina Shaheed, Tasmina Khan Majles, Tayabuzzaman Khan, and Vinita Karim.  The curatorial approach which brought together a diverse range of artistic practices, from Ekushey Padak recipients to emerging artists and recent top graduates from the Faculty of Fine Art (Charukola), emphasised inclusivity, intergenerational exchange, and the creation of a cohesive visual experience.

The inaugural exhibition was curated by Artefactum’s gallerist Rumana Habib. “This curation was inspired by the space, a wellness centre. We selected pieces that felt meditative and immersive, and could bring people along on an inner journey as they walk through the exhibition” she shared.

The exhibition has also hosted interdisciplinary programming, including “Inner Flight,” an immersive experience presented by Swayambhu, where live music, guided meditation, and art merged into a shared contemplative journey. There are broader plans for future programming such as film screening series, musical performances, and multidisciplinary cultural events, aimed at strengthening connections between artists and audiences and bridging cultural divides within Dhaka. Artefactum invites both new and returning visitors to experience the works and engage with its evolving programme.
