Oris in collaboration with Disney Releases ProPilot X Kermit Edition Featuring Kermit the Frog from The Muppets.
The first function of every Oris watch, in the purest emotional, feel-it-in-your-bones sense, is to bring joy, to make people smile. For some time, Oris has been trying to find the ultimate expression of this – to make a watch that encapsulates pure joy. The pursuit led it to the easiest ‘guy’ on the planet, Kermit the Frog from The Muppet Show and to the creation of the ProPilot X Kermit Edition.
Kermit’s role is to entertain. For generations, he has been putting a smile on people’s faces. Oris’s Creative Director, Ken Laurent, went to Hollywood to meet Kermit the Frog. Explaining why Oris was so drawn to Kermit in the first place, Laurent says, “We have a lot in common. He’s the ‘everyfrog’, like the everyman. He’s down to earth… and he’s never trying to be the centrepiece, but he always has an important role to play. The main goal of The Muppets is to entertain people, to have fun, to make people laugh and have a good time. At the same time they’re always trying to solve something, but in a fun way. Snap!”
The watch is based on Oris’s 39mm titanium ProPilot X Calibre 400, except it has a green dial. And a twist! On the first of every month, the date window at 6 o’clock will be filled with a Kermit the Frog emoji. Oris calls it, ‘Kermit Day.’
‘Kermit Day’ is all about not taking life too seriously – to have some fun. Oris’s execution of ‘Kermit Day’ is subtle and beautiful. Laurent explains, “We could have put a big Kermit the Frog emoji on the dial. Some might have done that because they want their most important collaborations to be in-your-face, to scream. But we didn’t want that. We wanted something more humble that would respect the product.”
With the ProPilot X Kermit Edition, there is nothing more to it than making people smile. Of course, it is powered by a brilliant movement and the case design is spectacular, but the function of the watch is simple – to bring joy.
