The practice of changing into sleep clothes is seldom heard of in Bangladesh. Sure, we slip into our most casual wear when we go to bed, but we are missing out on a night-time essential that promises a good night’s rest – loungewear. “When I was a child, my mother would ensure that my sleep clothes were tailor-made. It was part of my night time routine and it helped me sleep much better.” Tazrian Binte Ishaque Nity, the designer and founder of Pinky Promise, understands how important sleepwear is and she has convinced her wearers of the same.
Nity launched her brand in the autumn of 2019. She started with a capital of a mere 30,000 taka, but two years and 50 active collections later, Pinky Promise is now not only turning out to be a major player in the market, but also fulfilling a gap that we never realised existed. The brand has dropped its later summer-monsoon campaign. A testament to the quality and comfort that the brand promises (pun intended), the latest collection has outdone all the previous benchmarks.
Using a diverse colour palette, the newest from Pinky Promise by Nity is a creative mix of bright, floral patterns, plain solids, fun tie-dyes and eclectic geometric designs in light and dark hues. An optimist full of positive energy, Nity wants her designs to liven up the mood. “We have already stepped into monsoon and what a gloomy one it is turning out to be! Wearing vibrant colours cheers the heart up a little bit, and gives you a little confidence,” says the designer.
THE DESIGNER PREFERS TO WEAR HER DESIGNS HERSELF TO CHECK THE QUALITY AND COMFORT LEVEL OF THE CLOTHES. “IF I CANNOT HAVE IT IN MY WARDROBE, I NEVER LET IT GO INTO THE FINAL COLLECTION.”
Her look book for the season includes elegant kaftans in stitched, pleated and normal cuts, funky shorts with classy monogrammed tees, short and long-sleeved classic pyjama suits and much more. “I design loungewear in such a way that the wearer can even step out of their homes in them if they need to, looking just as stylish as they would in conventional ‘outdoor clothes’.” It’s not only about the looks though. The designer has an impeccable quality control methodology – she prefers to wear her designs herself! “If I cannot have it in my wardrobe, I never let it go into the final collection,” says Nity.
The summer campaign this year is quite special to the fearless businesswoman. She feels that womanhood should be celebrated every day – a single day is not enough to celebrate and appreciate all that women do for the world. For the first time, Nity has chosen to work with 9 distinguished career women, all of whom have reached pinnacles of success through their hard work.
