FAN- TASTIC

A nod to the fandoms that have kept the music, sports, athletics, and art scene in Bangladesh alive!

You know that feeling…

That feeling when your favourite band releases a new album. You can’t wait to listen to all the tracks, back-to-back, on repeat, and engrossed in conversation about the musical genius of yet another masterpiece.
That feeling when your favourite player comes in clutch and scores that winning goal, and the entire neighbourhood erupts in celebration; you along with it.
That feeling when you’re hunched over the handlebars of your trusty bicycle – your mates alongside you – all of you in matching gear, participating in a long-awaited endurance cycling. A shared experience!
That feeling when you go to an exhibition, look at an emotive piece of art and get lost in the surrealism of it. You look around the gallery and witness the same immersion in all the other enthusiastic visitors.

You know that feeling… It’s the feeling of being part of a fandom – Exploring a deep love for a passion through conversations, arguments and experience. We shine light on four fantastic fandoms in Bangladesh and celebrate the people who have kept fuelling this everlasting fire.

Music
Symphonic synths, heavy riffs, and thrashing snares started the rock music uprising in Bangladesh 6 decades ago. Today, the strong companionship of the fandom continues to provide unrelenting support to mainstream and underground bands in the country.

Football
Whether amateur, professional or underground, football has a definite place in the hearts of Bangladeshis. The fandom of this sport is so extreme, fans have made lifelong friends or sworn enemies based solely on the team they support.

Cycling
At the frontline of the battle against the epidemic of the 21st-century sedentary lifestyle is a fandom that is becoming equally viral. The cycling fandom has adopted the activity as a way of life – from commute, to entertainment, to competition.

Art
Bangladeshi art has a history that dates back more than 2000 years. The support and contribution of the fandom have enriched our culture and inspired thousands of creative minds to express their thoughts on socio-economic issues through various mediums.
