THE CHIC CONNECTION

In a conversation, Salmina Rahman Saazi, founder and owner of Salmina Rahman Couture elaborates on her journey and the future of the brand.

What kind of outfits does Salmina Rahman Couture specialise in?
Salmina Rahman Couture is a boutique that specialises in multicultural attire. At Salmina Rahman Couture we focus on handcrafted design, each solely sketched per outfit. As all our dresses are handcrafted, each and every dress is like a piece of art, making them unique in every way possible. We are mainly made-to-order boutique and we believe, “all humans are unique.”

Please tell us about the Salmina Rahman Couture journey.
My journey with Salmina Rahman Couture has been fabulous for 3 years now, Alhamdulillah. It first started with a few sketches in my notepad of random designs inspired by artistic jewellery, abstract arts and cultural events around the world. Later, I started adding more details to my designs and eventually incorporated them on my dresses. To my surprise, my family liked what I wore, and wanted me to design for them as well. This fostered into my passion for designing clothes that not only reflect style and individuality, but are also comfortable to wear.

As a young entrepreneur how do you manage your business?
Well, the brand is mainly owned by my husband and me. He has been helping me out in this journey from the start. I am best described as the brain of the business, and him, the muscle. I mostly do the designs, and choose the fabric and color combinations, and from
there, he takes over and manages the employees, the packaging, and the marketing.

How do you think young entrepreneurs like yourself have been contributing to the fashion industry in Bangladesh?
Currently, in Bangladesh, there are many young designers who are tirelessly trying to make a stand in the fashion industry. Even though we specialize in different genres, I believe we have actually been working hand-in-hand towards filling the gaps in our fashion industry.

What’s next for Salmina Rahman Couture?
Well we are still growing everyday despite the bumps, and we hope to launch our own flagship outlet someday. As an entrepreneur, I have always wanted to take our fashion industry to international clients. Our fashion industry has grown remarkably, and has been evolving fast, and for good. I hope someday Bangladesh can foray into the global fashion market. When we finally stand under the limelight, I would love to see my brand, along with the other top brands of the country. And I extend my thanks to Ice Today for providing a platform to let designers like myself share our stories.
