Faria Mehmood shares the story of her inspiration behind MUKTA, and the elegance, beauty, and femininity captured in each one of its creations.
Pearls symbolize elegance, romanticism & femininity. MUKTA introduced a new brand of elegance in town when it opened its doors in late December of last year. Founded by Faria Mehmood, who considers herself an unapologetic dreamer, MUKTA explores a motto – Storytelling Through Fashion. The brand’s collections are the tangible embodiments of the aesthetics and emotions in the mind of its creator.
Faria credits her background in architecture for instilling her strong ideals; authentic conceptual designs, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. “It was during my training that I learned that true joy is in the process of creation, and realized my artistic affinities to romanticism, femininity and surrealism,” she says.
In the past year, MUKTA has introduced two core collections. Their debut collection, aptly titled, ‘Namesake’, celebrates the romantic and feminine essence of pearls. The collection is a celebration of the bygone era, calling back to the creativity and beauty of the past and anchoring them into contemporary fashion. Painted with the hues of black, white, and pink pearls, the collection resembles the form and texture of the gem. To mimic ridges and crests of the shells, the pieces are adorned with hand pleating and patterns of scallops.

Their sophomore collection, titled ‘Zodiac’, celebrates diversity. The collection was conceptualized by drawing parallels between the color spectrum and the diversity of women around the world. The pieces are inspired by the distinct traits of each zodiac sign, and exudes emotions inspired by their lucky colors, gemstones, and personalities.
Their latest is a limited-edition series in celebration of their first anniversary. They revisited their core belief in celebrating the inner grace of people to design this exclusive drop that will only be available for a limited time. The idea was to create collectible pieces that will hold and gain worth over time.
The brand was launched amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, but despite the challenges of entry, it has managed to make a mark in the industry. They introduced gold-plated logo embossed jewellery embellished with real pearls & Swarovski crystals. They are the go-to brand for events for celebrities and bloggers and have been featured in multiple news publications. They were chosen by the Miss Universe event to dress their top 20 contestants, and design ‘Birth of Venus’, the gown for the reigning queen.
MUKTA’s vision is to make a positive impact on design culture by discouraging the practice of commercialism. MUKTA aims to inspire designers to vocalize in a language that speaks to their individual aesthetics and to deliver on their emotions and dreams through their work.
