Success cannot be defined through any particular achievement. It is merely subjective at the end of the day. The word ‘success’ carries different meanings through person to person throughout the world. However, while defining ‘success’, everyone has one idea in common. That is, being able to pursue the goal you have set for yourself.
Truth be told, there are no specific formulas to be successful in life. Life is full of obstacles and uncertainties, and everyone has their battles to fight. The successful people defeat the odds, and the rest give in to the adversities. But there are a few key attributes that differentiate the most successful people from the rest.
Persistence and Confidence: You have to believe in yourself and never give up. If you believe that you can do it, you will do it. You have to keep patience and never stop trying. Push yourself to the limits. Delete the phrase, “I cannot” from your dictionary. Are you on top of the world? Do you think you have achieved everything? Well, maybe not. You have only yourself to challenge. Stay hungry and grounded. Never believe that you are the best, and you have achieved everything. Follow a formidable work ethic, and you can set the stage on fire.
Chasing Dreams, not Money: Never chase money, let money chase you. Chasing money will not make you rich. Never measure success by the amount of money you have. Money doesn’t define an individual; accomplishments do. Do what you love. Success will start knocking at your door. Self-assessment is critical here. Figure out your strengths, weaknesses, your passion, and act accordingly. In other words, know yourself first and exhibit your inner prowess.
Set Your Goals and Aim Higher: Be ambitious. Your goals should be a bit tougher than your actual capacity. So that you can push yourself to the limits, try to select a specific goal and set a time limit for achieving that. Your target should be getting your job done before the time limit. You cannot cross the time limit, no matter what. Work on your weaknesses to enhance your skill sets. Every time you accomplish a task, select a stricter goal for the next time. This way, you will keep challenging yourself continuously.
Leaving the comfort zone: If you want to be successful, you have to step out of your comfort zone. There is no room for complacency. You have to strive to thrive. Yes, there will be countless challenges and obstacles you will have to face. There will be instances where you will feel like giving up. And at those moments know that you are trying and striving. Never let your comfort zone win against your dreams. A lackadaisical lifestyle, indulging in your sweet little idiosyncrasies might turn out to be fatal. Defeat all the odds with assiduity. Work hard and smart.
Eliminating the Excuses: Excuses sound best to the one who’s making it. No matter how much we try to escape reality, we can’t. Complaining about life problems gives you one more reason to keep failing. Most people, when they are in trouble, ask one question. “Why always me?” Instead of asking “Why always me?”, ask yourself, “How can I solve this one?” This perspective will create a positive mindset, and whenever you are in trouble, you will feel optimistic. Giving too many excuses will provide you with an illusion of self-consolation and nurture the pessimist inside you.
Time Management: This is arguably an essential characteristic of a successful person. All of us came to this world with limited time. So, we have to utilize it. Every time you see an opportunity, don’t let it go. Opportunities will not come very often, and if you lose one, it is lost forever. Maintain punctuality and never try to achieve perfection. In this world, nothing is perfect. Work according to plans and try to work with maximum efficiency. The more you try to achieve perfection, the more time you kill. You might get somewhat satisfactory results. However, the price you pay might not be worth it. For example, you can get an A+ by obtaining 80% marks. Now, if you keep trying to achieve 100% instead of 80%, you need to work twice as hard. However, your grades will remain the same. So, prioritize time while scheduling your work and designing your plans.
There will be haters: No matter how hard you try, everyone will not like you. When you are trying to defeat the odds and do something better, you will find people cracking insensitive jokes for cheap humour. Turn a deaf ear towards them. Always remember that public opinion is very inconsistent. The same people mocking you might turn out to be your admirers when you’ve finally reached your desired goal. Your well-being does not depend on any other person or what they think of you. You do your work and let the results speak for you.
It might sound paradoxical, but you are your biggest inspiration and also your biggest enemy. Step up and don’t hesitate to go the extra mile. You will, undoubtedly, face various difficulties initially. However, patience and perseverance are the keys to make life beautiful. Utilize this divine gift and try to exploit every opportunity you get.
