Why Shazam could change things for DC

For a few years now, DC has been struggling to compete with Marvel due to most of their recent movies being lower rated and making lower in the box office compared to movies made by Marvel. However, things might just change for the better now, following the release of Shazam in 2019. Most of the superhero movies of DC are pretty intense, dark and serious, leaving very little space for humor. Shazam, however, seems to be more lighthearted and has a somewhat comedic genre to it. Starring Zach Levi as Shazam, judging from the trailer, it seems as if the film will adapt heavily from the revamped origin story from the DC New 52 Comics line. That involves mischief, focusing on family and experimenting with the newly discovered superpowers at the same time.

Shazam is currently set to be released on April 5th, 2019. For more info, you can read the official synopsis from Warner Bros as well as get a preview of the first official trailer below.

We all have a superhero inside us that is waiting to be discovered. It just takes a little bit of magic to bring it out. However, in Billy Batson’s (Asher Angel) case, by shouting out “SHAZAM!”, this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Zach Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard.

Still a kid at heart-inside a chiseled, superhuman physique, Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing just what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with and make the most of them! Can he break walls? Does he have the ability to fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he skip his social studies test?

Although Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child, he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).
