The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ are Samsung’s latest flagship devices. In terms of looks, most of the designs have been carried forward from the previous year’s Galaxy S8, with the main difference being the placement of the fingerprint scanner, which now lies beneath the camera setup on the back of the phone, instead of on the side. The phone also comes in four new colors: Lilac Purple, Midnight Black, Titanium Gray and Coral Blue. The Infinity Displays are also of the same dimensions: 5.8 inches for the S9 and 6.2 inches for the S9+. Like the previous models, the S9 and S9+ are both IP 68 certified, both support wireless charging and both carry headphone jacks and USB Type-C charging ports. So, what’s the biggest change with the phone? The camera!
The new camera is what has been catching the most attention in these new flagship devices and it is well- deserved. While most smartphone manufacturers go with cameras with fixed apertures, Samsung has decided to go with dual aperture lenses to give users more control of the photos and videos they can take with the device. The Dual Aperture set up supports F1.5, which allows more light to get into the shot for a brighter and clearer photo, and F2.4, which makes your pictures come out sharper in broad daylight. This is probably the first for any smartphone camera out there. The phones now support “Super Slo-mo”, which allows the camera to film videos at an astounding speed of 960 frames per second at 720p. It can also do regular Slo-mo videos at 240 frames per second at 1080p. Something else that is new with the phone is ARemoji, which is kind of like Apple’s Animoji. You can now take a selfie and turn it into an animation. You can also record the animation and send it to your contacts as short clips or just fool around mimicking Disney Characters. The only difference in the camera setups of the two phones is that the S9+ supports a Dual- Camera setup while the S9 supports a single camera setup.
Specifications wise the phones now support Snapdragon 845 chipsets. You are going to get either 4GB or 8 GB of RAM and 3000 mAh or 3500 mAh of battery depending on whether you buy the S9 or S9+. The phones come in 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB variants with microSD storage expansion option. As for audio, Samsung claims to surround the users with Dolby Atmos sound on stereo speakers that have been tuned by AKG.
