VA at LV: Virgil Abloh aims to shake things up at Louis Vuitton

The 37-year-old Chicago native, and founder of Off-White, was featured in a frenzy of posts throughout the various platforms on social media. Virgil Abloh’s name has been making its rounds throughout the right circles for quite some time now. However, it still remains a pleasant surprise that the heads of LVMH decided to appoint the first ever black designer as the creative head of their menswear line.

What most may not know is Louis Vuitton’s decision to present the Artistic Director’s chair to a designer who effortlessly incorporates high-fashion elements to an urban, high-street skeleton. His Off-White label is the perfect example of that golden plated bridge between the higher echelon of fashion and the streets they are inspired by. This recent appointment of Abloh, who collaborated with Kanye West and numerous occasions, plays eloquently to the old formula of brands being boosted by the personality behind its success.

Plain and simple, Abloh’s momentum is at an all-time high and LV clearly wants to take advantage of 2017’s profits and the stable position Kim Jones has left before his exit. Abloh’s first collection for the label will be seen this July, presenting a new vision for Louis Vuitton’s men. A different signature of the historic French fashion house will finally be placed and it garners more hype than ever. Here’s to a lucrative and ridiculously stylish reign of one Virgil Abloh.
