The new drama ‘Kotha Hobe To?’ under the series Osthir Shomoy Shostir Golpo is like a breath of fresh air in comparison to the over-the-top cheesy dramas that we see these days. The story is portrayed with such ease and conviction, that you will automatically hit the replay button without even realizing.
The plot revolves around Rafi and Sheyoti, who live in the same building next to each other but never exchange a word. Rafi happens to be the bike rider that Sheyoti orders to get to home every day after her tuitions. Their eyes meet many times but breaking the ice and talking to one another still feels like a far cry. The only source of getting the updates of each other’s life is the maid who works at their house. These two people are unlike the hopeless love birds who promise to cross oceans for each other- rather, they have a calm and realistic approach towards life.
Masuma Rahman Nabila will sweep you away with her mesmerizing performance as Sheyoti. Her portrayal of the perfect girl next door will take you back to the days when we used to watch TV dramas with family on a Friday afternoon. She earns extra cash from tuitions so her mother can have a sigh of relief. She casually inquires the maid ( who works for both Rafi and her) about Rafi’s accident without showing too much concern or interest.
Rafi, played by Manoj Kumar enacts the role of a responsible man in his late 20’s. He is serving as a bike rider alongside his 9-5 job to save a little extra money. Unlike other heroes, Rafi didn’t go ballistic when he found out that the girl next door is getting married. He knows he loves her but didn’t make a depressing scene about it. In fact, he congratulated her. Way to go, Rafi!
Director Syed Ahmed Shawki successfully illustrates the picture of three bachelors living together, a worried mother of an unmarried girl and a love story that is simple, hassle free and relatable that anybody can put themselves in the characters’ shoes. He establishes the storyline with a subtle ease that it stands out among the larger than life unrealistic love stories. The use of simple dialogues, common day to day activities and simple conversations leaves you with a sense of peace.
We can’t end this without mentioning the last five minute conversation between Rafi and Sheyoti. The unhesitant flow of interaction will keep you wanting for more and you won’t even realize that this is the first REAL conversation they had in the entire drama.
