As the Cannes Film festivals slips into its 70th year the debate rages about fashion and its attempt to eclipse the importance of movies in a film festival. While other Bollywood actors bemoan the lack of Indian films being featured at Cannes and prance on the red carpet wearing all the correct fashion brands, there’s Nandita Das who appears like a singular sun flower in a field of roses.
The actress has been promoting her directorial movie ‘Manto’ all the while making a silent statement with her fashion choices. Das moved from linen tunics to Jamdani sari with an ease which so many aspire to have and fail to achieve.
Moreover, most of her what she wore was in an effort to promote Indian designers such as the Paromita Banerjee and Anavila Mishra. In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Das made her opinion about fashion clear stating that even though media’s fixation on fashion is unhealthy, she’s always conscious of her fashion choices. Furthermore, she has never felt the need to prioritize fashion.
In conclusion, all we can say is you can always rely on a Bengali to pave the way for other women to follow. What a champion!
Here is a sneak peak of some of piece she wore while in Cannes.
