Anime essentials: the best shows to get you into the world of anime

Death Note

One of the most popular anime in the world, this show has created waves around the world with its mind-blowing plots and fleshed out characters. Death Note is a dark crime thriller that plays with themes of life, death, and karma. Light Yagami, a young vigilante, discovers the Death Note, a notebook that guarantees the immediate death of anyone whose name appears within its pages. What Light does with the Death Note, with the help of a Shinigami spirit (who is like a grim reaper), is a critical commentary on personal ethics and the influence of power and ego on the role of playing God. The cat-and-mouse game in Death Note is convoluted and demented, and the combination of horror and suspense makes for a compelling show that leaves viewers with just enough of a gut punch to keep them tuning in.

Steins Gate

Steins Gate is an intellectual adventure with time travel that delves into the age-old theory that changing the past can affect the present and future. In the techie Japanese neighbourhood of Akihabara, three friends sneak into the future and send texts back to the past to change their destinies. Making decisions in Steins Gate is nerve-wracking at best, given that the smallest mistake can have far-reaching consequences. The show is an emotionally engaging thrill ride with intricate plot twists and character dynamics that demand the full attention of its audience.

This anime provides quirky and distinctive characters that would easily confuse the viewers at first. Their characteristics wrap around the minds of the viewers and captivates them with the various plots and storyline of the series. The magic here is in the skillful structuring of a complex plot and in the fluid gradations between lighter and darker tones. All of the characters are guaranteed to win your heart, and the show will have you crying tears of both laughter and sorrow.

FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

FullMetal Alchemist is one of the most well-known anime. This dark fantasy show started out as a manga series that ran in Monthly Shonen Gangan from 2001 to 2010. Two anime versions, Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, were made from the manga.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is about two alchemists, Edward Elric and his younger brother Alphonse Elric, who live in Europe in the 1800s. The alchemist brothers try to use their skills to bring their dead mother back to life, but they fail. They go on a journey to find the cure and find themselves in a number of difficult situations and plots that reveal the harshness and severity of the world where control and power means everything.

One Punch Man

ONE is the Japanese creator of the webcomic, manga, and anime franchise One-Punch Man. The webcomic debuted in July 2009 and has since attained a total of over 7.9 million views, along with an average of over 20,000 views per day.

One-Punch Man is perfect for people who are already fans of superhero franchises. Saitama is a standard example of an overpowered hero, but even he can’t compare to Goku. Since no one can truly challenge him, Saitama, also known as One-Punch Man, is the central character. Since he is now too powerful to experience any thrill from combat, he is forced to deal with an existential crisis. His superhero alias after joining the Hero Association is Caped Baldy. Saitama resents his immense strength. The tone of One-Punch Man is lighthearted. Although it strongly sticks to certain anime stereotypes, the story makes light of the genre’s more artificial elements.

Code Geass

This show, which first came out in 2006, has stood the test of time because of two aspects: a captivating setting made up of careful worldbuilding, and a story that builds through both strategy and shocking twists.

The story takes place in an alternate timeline that is similar to 1984. The Holy Britannian Empire, the Chinese Federation, and the European Union are the world’s three superpowers. In this timeline, the Holy Britannian Empire has invaded Japan. This anime is a political mecha thriller with some exciting action scenes that keep the tension going. Lelouch is our main character, who creates his own rebel force to challenge the world’s mightiest empires and turns the tides against all his enemies, taking out all of his targets all the while attending his highschool. The show is known as one of the best mecha anime of all time because of its clever political plots, interesting mythology, and interesting characters.
