Dhaka Makers’ Week, presented by HSBC, was a spectacle like no other — a first-of-its-kind fair that celebrated the diverse talents of artists, sculptors, chefs, and musicians. As wide-eyed visitors, we were swept away on a whimsical journey, where every corner revealed a new marvel, and every moment left us breathless with wonder.
From the very first moment, Dhaka Makers’ Week exuded an electric energy that tingled in the air. Aloki, a community space nestled in Tejgaon, transformed into a sanctuary of artistry and imagination. The visionaries behind this extraordinary event, Fahd Sattar, Istela Imam, Maruful Hoque, Fairose Yasmin, Maleena Gomez, Umaila Akhter, Zafir Huq, Tahsin N. Choudhury, Mahenaz Chowdhury, Taiara Farhana Tareque, and Mariha Q. Chowdhury, wove together a tapestry of creativity, uniting the city’s diverse artistic community.

The grand inauguration ceremony unveiled the passionate team behind the event, setting the stage for an unforgettable experience. Esteemed guests AnushehAnadil and Durjoy Rahman graced us with their inspiring words while the melodies of Bengal Parampara Sangeetalay cast a spell over our souls. With bated breath, we embarked on a four-day odyssey where imagination knew no bounds and artistry reigned supreme.
Meandering through the event, we discovered a symphony of colours, textures, and sounds. Over a hundred makers dazzled our senses, their creations painting a vivid canvas of ingenuity. From stunning paintings and sculptures to intricate jewellery and fashion apparel, the makers poured their souls into their creations, leaving us in awe of their talent and passion.
Dhaka Makers’ Week went beyond being a mere showcase of art — it was an immersive experience that invited us topartake in the magic. An exhibition titled ‘Artscapes: Expressions of the City’, curated by Taiara Farhana Tareque, Shehzad Munim and Raiyaan Mahbub, displayed the artistic prowess of several talented minds, sharing their thoughts, experiences and stories in the form of art. Interactive workshops, guided by seasoned professionals, beckoned us to explore various art forms. We found ourselves lost in the world of stop-motion animation, puppet making, and cyanotype printing. The joy of creating something with our hands ignited a newfound appreciation for the artistry surrounding us.
Amidst this artistic oasis, Dhaka Makers’ Week celebrated the significance of locally produced goods. The food zone tantalised our taste buds withenvironmentally conscious vendors and a ‘Farmer’s Market’ brimming with fresh produce straight from the farms. Homemade condiments and organic treasures delighted our senses as we savoured the flavours and supported local artisans.
The evenings at Dhaka Makers’ Week were a symphony of melodies, a respite for weary souls. Independent artists and bands such as Kanna Dey The Destroyer, Ankan Kumar, Darkling, Kaaktaal, and Hatirpool Sessions serenaded us, their music intertwining with the art, creating an ambience that lifted our spirits. It was a celebration of the harmonious fusion of art and music, where the melodies whispered secrets of the soul and the strokes of the brush danced to their rhythm.
