The Choice of Mediterranean Cuisine

Holiday Inn Dhaka City Centre carefully selected a Mediterranean menu based on extensive research into the preferences of the local consumer market in Bangladesh. They recognised the shared culinary traditions between Bengali and Mediterranean cultures.

A Culinary Expertise

Chef Banefus Gomes, with over 20 years of professional experience, played a pivotal role in designing the menu at The Ilish. His culinary journey began in India and Lebanon, where he developed expertise in Lebanese and general Mediterranean dishes. He further expanded his repertoire while working in Dubai and Qatar, catering to international palates. Chef Gomes returned to Bangladesh in 2014 and has since contributed his vast knowledge to various renowned establishments.

The Significance of the Name

The name ‘Ilish’ holds symbolic meaning for the restaurant. As Hilsa, a popular sea fish, represents the fusion of Mediterranean and Bangladeshi flavours, it serves as a fitting representation of the restaurant’s concept. Moreover, by showcasing the national fish of Bangladesh, The Ilish introduces global visitors to the richness of Bangladeshi culinary traditions. The restaurant pays homage to seafood, a primary focus of Mediterranean cuisine, making it an ideal mascot for the menu.

From beef fillet medallions to beef koobideh and adana and delightful desserts like apple creme brulee and tiramisu, The Ilish promises an enticing culinary journey.

Captivating Interior

The Ilish boasts a spacious 2700 square feet dining area, accommodating up to 60 people at a time. The interior design creates a serene ambiance reminiscent of the Mediterranean. The colour scheme of beige and turquoise exudes tranquility, complemented by elegant hanging lanterns and an intricate carpet. As guests indulge in the delectable offerings, they can also enjoy the breathtaking view of the city from the 16th floor, savouring their moments at this restaurant.
