HIDDEN GEMS OF BANGLADESH

Head of Marketing, Wander Woman, Tanishaa Arman highlights some offbeat locations in Bangladesh that you can visit this Eid.

Tourism in Bangladesh is booming faster than ever with increasing access to information, improved infrastructure and of course, people’s insatiable thirst for travel. Bangladesh is a country that offers much more than you can imagine! There are touristy spots, outlying ruins, and historic sites as well as some truly beautiful locations that are somewhat less famous but are definitely worth a visit.

TANGAIL
There are many historical sites and jamidar baris in Tangail that are rich in history and quite picturesque as well, such as Pakulla Jamidar Bari, Atiya Jame Masjid, Deludar Jamidar Bari, Karatia Jamidar Bari, Mohera Jamidar Bari and Rokeya Mahal. While some locations are preserved and require an entrance fee, others are not that well-maintained and you probably have to request the caretaker to let you give access.

BANDARBAN
The magical hills are a must for hikers and trekkers. The view from the top is always a delight! Starting from the adventurous ‘Chaander Gari’ (jeep) rides through the mountainous roads to boat rides in the rivers of Thanchi, Bandarban is a gem for both the serene and adventurous types of travellers.

RAJSHAHI
The city has recently earned its fame due to its cleanliness, something most cities in the country lack. Those who want a breath of fresh air (literally) should visit Rajshahi. One can visit the historical Bagha Mosque, the legendary Puthiya Rajbari, and the iconic Rajshahi University. To truly get the essence of Rajshahi, one must visit the Padma Ghatpaar for the wide array of snacks, boats and people, and to watch the sun set on the water.

RANGAMATI
Kaptai Lake is famous for its tranquil beauty. You can go kayaking, go on a boat ride or visit waterfalls, particularly lesser-known waterfalls such as Dhuppani and Gaskata waterfall which are just as breathtaking as the Shuvolong waterfall.

BARISHAL
The floating market at Banaripara is quite famous for its beautiful way of shopping and the diverse products on display such as rice, fruits and sometimes even flowers. A photography buff will thoroughly enjoy the bustling and energetic scene. While in Barishal, you must also take a sunset bike ride along Kuakata beach, which is less touristy than Cox’s Bazar. The bike ride is quite smooth and enjoyable, and it feels like you are driving to the edge of the Bay of Bengal!

Many people from previous generations considered travel a luxury, but it is now considered a necessity due to its capacity to enrich one’s life. Let us travel responsibly and preserve nature for our future generations!
