Makeover Finesse’s Farhana Chaity on her journey into the world of beauty and makeover

The world of makeup can be a lot to handle. Where every day a new makeup trend emerges, many makeup artists often struggle to find the ground to explore what they expertise on. But a makeup artist like Farhana Chaity is not like the rest. This young pioneer of Makeover Finesse by Farhana Chaity shared her story with ICE Today!

WHO OR WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR INSPIRATION TO PERFECT YOUR CRAFT?

My inner drive and passion for excellence is my inspiration to perfect my skills in makeup. I always strive for the best and do everything possible to achieve that. My professional training and international exposure as a makeup artist and hairstylist helped shape that up to a great extent.

YOU WERE TRAINED IN SEOUL, KOREA AND MALAYSIA. DURING YOUR TENURE THERE DID YOUR PERSPECTIVE CHANGE OVER THE WORLD OF BEAUTY?

I did my Diploma in Versatile Makeup from MBC Beauty Academy in Seoul, Korea. I have participated in Global Beauty Expo in Seoul in 2017 and was awarded a gold medal for bridal makeup. After that, I completed another diploma in Advance Creative Hairstyling from Hair Zone Studio by Michael Poh – a renowned celebrity hairstylist in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

As you know, Korea is a trend centre when it comes to style and beauty care. Their professional approach, meticulous process and passion for perfection and quality inspired me a lot. It was a strenuous learning process where every brushstroke tells a story, every shade has a purpose. Working with Michael Poh as Hair Stylist was an experience on its own where I got a lot of high profile exposure working on different international expos, ASTRO TV, FEMININE magazine etc. Learning and working abroad helped me appreciate that makeup is so much about a fusion of art and science-driven by perfection and creativity. And I am still learning.

WHAT ARE THE TWO MAKEUP TRENDS DO YOU FIND INTERESTING? HOW DO YOU STAY ABREAST OF THE LATEST BEAUTY TRENDS?

I find abstract makeup and natural makeup as two very conflicting yet interesting areas to work with. The essence of natural makeup –“less is more” is something I strongly believe which accentuates the beauty in a natural way while abstract makeup is another extreme where the person/subject is portrayed in a much more dramatic way. I follow quite a few beauty icons like Anastasia Beverly Hills, Bobbi Brown, Hannah Murray, Kiyah Wright, Kristin Ess. Fashion and makeup magazines like Allure, Vogue, Professional Beauty have always kept me updated about the ongoing trends.

SPEAKING OF TRENDS, WHAT IS THE HOTTEST BRIDAL MAKEUP TREND OF THIS YEAR?

What strikes out most nowadays is bridal glam-look where you have a very natural soothing base tone with a gorgeous shimmer look applied on that with a bit of creative hairstyle.

TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR VENTURE. WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND MAKEOVER FINESSE BY FARHANA CHAITY?

Makeover Finesse is a boutique makeup studio and salon where quality, service and personal touch matters. The ambience is very homely with a modern look and feel and utmost hygiene and safety measures. You will see minimalism everywhere. We use very high quality regular/herbal products from top brands and Korean skincare products. Ensure the best quality services provided by professionals trained by myself. Being a certified makeup artist and hairstylist, I am very discerning about everything we do. If we don’t do well, we don’t do things.

My biggest inspiration came from my husband, Afzal Mahboob- COO in GREY Worldwide and my parents who constantly motivated me to go for it.

WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES MAKEUP ARTISTS HAVE TO FACE?

The biggest challenge I see is striking the right balance between what the customer wants, her features and skin tone and the creativity you want to apply – hitting that sweet spot is always challenging yet very exciting. Understanding the personality and needs of the individual is critical as our slogan stands – “Your Style, Your Attitude and My Creativity”.

WHAT, IN YOUR OPINION, IS THE MOST IMPORTANT QUALITY IN A MAKEUP ARTIST?

To me, the most important quality in a makeup artist is to visualize the look in your mind instantly in line with the sweet spot I talked about. Also, the versatility – the drive to experiment with new things/exotic things rather than becoming stereotyped.

ANY CLOSING STATEMENTS?

I am quite excited to be in Bangladesh and to work with the beauty enthusiasts and professionals while sharing my experience and thoughts to take the industry to a global stage. Setting high benchmarks, creating new trends and driving professionalism are at the core of everything we do at Makeover Finesse. The future is all about creativity and excellence.
