ICE Today presents Special Eid ul Adha Portfolio “Riding High” featuring British Bangladeshi Model & Actor Ramzan Miah. The shoot was exclusively done in the UK for ICE Today August 2020 issue.
Born in the UK, Ramzan Miah comes from Bangladeshi parents. Even after being a British Bangladeshi, Ramzan Miah loved learning about his culture and was proud of his identity. When asked what interested him to pursue a career in modelling and acting, he replied, “I would say I have always been a creative person from an early age and I had a lot of energy to give growing up.” He was introduced to the world of acting first when a Bengali director approached his father as he needed to find a young boy to act in a Bengali TV show. “So, one day I was at school, then a few hours later, I was on set learning my lines,” he shares while reminiscing.
For Ramzan Miah, the modelling adventure came to fruition later. Remembering the old day he said, “I did a fashion show and was approached by an agency. I grew into that rather quickly with one thing leading to another and now I love working in the commercial and fashion industry.”
His initial challenge was facing rejection. The glamour world is a place where nothing happens overnight. You have to keep going at it. So did he. However, being a Bengali didn’t help his case either because at that time being a Bengali was another challenge in itself as no one in the South Asian community was pursuing modelling as a career. Even when speaking to his family regarding his livelihood was difficult as they didn’t take Ramzan’s career seriously. “I had to keep pushing to my community and use my voice and platform to stand up for the arts and what is right,” added Ramzan.
To achieve his incredible physique, Ramzan follows a strict regime. He focuses on a 45-minute intense workout daily to keep his health in check. Explaining the importance of maintaining good health he explained,
“ It’s crucial, especially in this time, to stay focused and committed to something and building up a daily sweat is something that brings me a sense of achievement.”
When asked to define male beauty, Ramzan shared his thoughts on the changing beauty norms. “ I think currently in today’s society things are changing with male beauty. Before this was all about being athletic, lighter skin, having a good body… now it is all about embracing the real you and being authentic. We still have a long way to go for sure, but it is great to see that conversation is happening and going in the right direction.”
Ramzan’s future aspirations include featuring in a Netflix original. However, for now, his priority is in his training and creativity.
