Beauty on-the-go

Having a full-fledged, extensive skincare routine is great until it’s time for travel and downsizing your makeup bag. Packing an arsenal of products to match your travel needs isn’t always a cake walk, leaving most of us with dehydrated skin, increased sensitivity and the most dreaded – breakouts, smack in the middle of a trip where we need our skin to behave better than most days.

ICE Today sat down with beauty gurus, make-up artists and bloggers to find out their skincare secrets when on-the-go. From what-to-do to what products they swear by, we have your travel needs covered.

TRAVEL SKINCARE REGIME
Since it’s difficult to carry a lot of products, I try to always carry a good face wash/makeup remover, sunscreen, and moisturizer.

For a quick DIY facial scrub, I use a mix of lemon, sugar, and honey – it does wonders! I have combination skin, which leans more towards the oily side, so for my makeup, I try to keep it simple when traveling. Although my skin isn’t as oily when on vacation, I stick to a very basic bare-face, ‘no-makeup’ look for daily wear. I begin with color correcting and then move onto tinted moisturizer or very little foundation. I finally set my face with a good finishing powder.

3 TIPS TO FLAWLESS SKIN
First and foremost, drink lots of water! You’re traveling, you get dehydrated and tired, and it’s really important that you drink tonnes of water, get enough sleep or else no amount of makeup is going to help.

  • Carry a good primer and setting spray to ensure your makeup lasts longer.
  • Always make sure you are removing your makeup thoroughly and rub ice on your face, afterward!
  • That would be using a sunscreen as long as the sun is out! I do it now and it has helped me so much.

GO-TO PRODUCTS
I love the Rice Water Bright Cleansing foam from the Face Shop. For an ‘on-the-go-mask’, I love the Himalayan Charcoal Mask by BodyShop and as for sunscreen, I am loving Biore – it isn’t sticky and works well. The matte Bioderma is also another favorite.

As for makeup, my favorite foundation is the Double Wear by Estee Lauder, it barely needs any setting when I am outside and I love the coverage it gives me. I also love the NARS tinted moisturizer.

TRAVEL SKINCARE REGIME
When I’m traveling, skin care becomes a whole new ball game. My skin starts to get really dry while flying, so I usually scrub and moisturize my skin the night before. I always change my skin care products according to the weather and environment of the city I’m traveling to. I religiously use a good sunblock and a hydrating cream; I like to keep my makeup routine simple and fresh while I’m on-the-go. I use a light tinted moisturizer along with my regular sunblock and some translucent powder. I apply some mascara and lip tint and that’s all. I only apply liner when my eyes look too tired to make them look open.

3 TIPS TO FLAWLESS SKIN

  • Use sunblock
  • Hydrate your skin on a daily basis
  • It’s very important you cleanse your skin at night to get rid of all the impurities and to look fresh next day.

GO-TO PRODUCTS
Micellar water, sunblock, and a good hydrating cream.

HOLY GRAIL SKINCARE TIP
If it comes to one skincare routine I’ll recommend cleansing. Whether you are a makeup person or not, cleansing is something that everyone requires, as it helps to get rid of the impurities and also helps maintain the normal PH of your skin that ultimately leads to the acne free healthy skin.

Taking care of my skin is something I never ignore. I religiously clean my face with baby lotion every night to remove my makeup and the day’s dust and grime. I wipe off the excess with wet wipes. Then I use a face wash. Finally, I use a rich moisturizer or night cream and massage that into the face. Makeup when traveling is not excessive. My MAC foundation, Clinique gel eyeliner, Too Faced mascara, brown eyebrow pencil, neutral shadow and blush, and a natural neutral lip color. All in small travel sizes, for convenience.

GO-TO PRODUCTS
My Lancome UV expert sunblock is something I apply every day. It’s the best. Astalift’s skincare range is also awesome. Kryolan range of foundations used at La Belle is also highly recommended. I also recommend Too Faced make-up line, Huda Beauty for their lip colors, Makeup Forever glitters and Inglot color pigments.

3 TIPS TO FLAWLESS SKIN

  • Never leave home without sunblock. Apply generously.
  • Cleanse every time you get back from outside.
  • Use an umbrella in the afternoons.

HOLY GRAIL SKINCARE TIP
Protect your skin from the sun’s UV rays and always use sunscreen.

I begin by moisturizing my face. If I suffer from extreme dryness, I use a lip and body treatment balm for those parts of my skin. Finally, I follow it with sunscreen – it’s very important for the skin but try to use one that is not greasy. I use a good facial cleaner by Cetaphil followed by a skin balancing toner. When it comes to oily skin and wearing make-up in humid weather, long wear formulations and waterproof makeup is the way to go. To make sure it lasts long I recommend a pore minimizing primer, a silica-based powder, a shine stopper or any oil controlling products or sprays.

GO-TO PRODUCTS
For foundation, I love the NARS All Day Luminous Weightless foundation followed by the Tarte bronzer with a matte finish, which is great for oily skin. Finally, the Kat Von D everlasting liquid to complete the look.

3 TIPS TO FLAWLESS SKIN
Keep your skin

  • Hydrated
  • Protected
  • Rejuvenated (with a mask)

HOLY GRAIL SKINCARE TIP
Add aloe vera to your regular beauty routine. It makes the skin smooth, supple and younger looking.

TRAVEL SKINCARE REGIME
Instead of wearing a lot of makeup, I love to keep it simple and focus on skincare. While traveling, especially when flying, our skin tends to get dehydrated. I always carry sheet masks and hydrating mists. Makeup wise, I keep it simple with a bit of concealer, bronzer, blush, highlighter, brow pencil, mascara, and lipgloss.

GO-TO PRODUCTS
Mario Badescu facial spray with aloe herbs and rose water.

3 TIPS TO FLAWLESS SKIN

  • Sun protection
  • Use hydrating masks
  • Drink lots of water

HOLY GRAIL SKINCARE TIP
Use sunscreen – it’s so important regardless of how the weather is. (Seems to be a trend here.)
