On the occasion of celebrating International Women’s Day, the Barbie Toy Company has introduced two separate series of Barbie dolls; “Inspiring Women” which includes influential women historical figures like Mexican artist Frieda Kahlo, the legendary woman aviator Amelia Earhart and prolific mathematician Katherine Johnson. The second series is named “Shero” which showcases inspirational contemporary women with one based on Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins.
Lisa McKnight, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Barbie stated in a news release, “Girls have always been able to play out different roles and careers with Barbie and we are thrilled to shine a light on real life role models to remind them that they can be anything.”
Quelling the fears of 86% of mothers who are concerned about the kind of role models their daughters are exposed to, this initiative is a bid to empower the budding women of tomorrow by inspiring them with brains and bravado.
