Joanne Rowling, or as we all know her, J.K. Rowling celebrates her 51st birthday today on 31st July. The novelist has made her mark on the life of an entire generation with the ‘Harry Potter’ series. A woman of many talents, Rowling is also a film producer, television producer, screenwriter and a philanthropist.
In 2016, Sunday Times Rich list listed her as the 197th richest person in UK. But life wasn’t always this rosy for Rowling. The novelist suffered domestic abuse, joblessness and being a single mother all by the time she was just 30. She also suffered from clinical depression and even had considered ending her life.
But destiny had other plans for this master story-teller. In 1997, ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ and the rest is history. Rowling’s latest novels have been written under the pseudonym ‘Robert Galbraith’ and while they haven’t received the same attention as the Harry Potter series, they have done well in sales.
Rowling is also very vocal on twitter. She has been known to give crushing put downs regarding a myriad of issues, such as climate change, President Trump’s inaptness and transgender issues. Here are some of our favorite.
