“I’m going to The Westin on Eid! What about you?”
“…uhh, sleep?”
Whether you’re a 20 something or in your late 30s, if you tell someone that you’re planning to catch a few Zs on Eid, one of the most important celebrations in Bangladesh, you will get more than just a few death stares. But, we’re here to assure you that the urge to roll on the bed in your jammies on Eid is normal; very normal. Here’s why!
Rest
If you take one good look at the Dhaka traffic, you’d know very well why there’s no such thing as a work-life balance. You’re either stuck at a signal or at the office- “goodbye social/personal/family life, it was nice knowing you all!” Whether it’s a three day holiday or a week’s worth of respite, the sheer joy of waking up at 12:30pm isn’t just bliss; it’s a divine gift from God.
Good memory
While people are up to their third helping of pulao, you’re napping away like it’s nobody’s business. Sleeping strengthens your memory or practice skills that you learned when you were awake; the process is called ‘consolidation.’ Just so you know that presentation speech you were worried about shouldn’t be a problem anymore. Just sleep on it!
Boosts creativity
Remember how you slept through almost half the day during Eid and woke up to writing that phenomenal article? Yes, sleep is the best friend to the cell of creativity you have in your body, and we’re about to quote the big names in our list of credibility. Harvard University and Boston College found that sleep has helped people to strengthen their emotional components; this in turn enhances their level of creativity.
Minimum snacking
80% of Eid gatherings in Dhaka revolve around eating; the rest 20% involves awkward kolakoli sessions and debates on world politics. The way we see it, your regular 8 hours of sleeping plus extra three hours just saves you from a lot of calories (and some small talk). Had you been awake, sleep deprived and disoriented, you would’ve probably had your neck buried in the shemai bowl. In fact, University of Chicago claims that dieters who are well rested lost more fat-56% of their weight loss compared to those who were sleep deprived
