This is what everyone is talking about Applebox Films’ Women’s Day special video

#BeBoldForChange was the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day with a view to encourage masses to step up and work towards establishing a gender-inclusive world. Applebox Films released a video featuring 8 bold women for this campaign. The video has taken the internet by storm: with 72,000 views and 752 shares so far, the film raised a debate on the definition of the word, “bold”, along with how women should dress on particular occasions or in specific places.

However, there were people who begged to differ.

It’s evident that the video showcases women from a certain social strata and the song is something that everyone will universally root for. Nevertheless, we at ICE too have some observations to share.

Pros
The beautiful Joya Ahsan casually walks through the aisles of Karwan Bazar, without a worry in the world.

Cons
Think about it. If you wouldn’t wear a bright saree to a funeral, you probably wouldn’t wear a short skirt to the bazar, as given in the video, seems a tad bit unrealistic. However, the debate of place-appropriate attire for women is subjective.

Pros
Play freely, the night is yours and the world is your oyster.

Cons
But, wouldn’t it make more sense if she were playing at a basketball court?

Applebox Films

Pros
Be brave, bold, unabashed.

Cons
However, does it imply that the idea of empowerment is only defined by the clothes she chooses to wear?

Pros
We all want to walk down a path without the numerous stares, and the spiteful comments

Cons
The night is young, and full of terrors.  But let’s not walk down a dark dingy railway station. It’s not only about empowerment, it’s also about safety.

Applebox Films

Pros
No hour is too late for the working woman.

Cons
But wouldn’t it make more sense if they showed her walking among corporate sharks in her stilettos, showing them who’s boss?
