Bangladesh has many potential sectors like readymade garments and fish items while France is skilled in the technological sector. Both countries may be benefited by exporting their respective products to each other, which was opined by the French Ambassador to Bangladesh, H.E. Madame Sophie Aubert. During the opening press conference, she also referred to the construction of Bangabandhu Satellite by a French company as many other large French companies are already working here. The French Ambassador also mentioned that Bangladesh being a middle income country should diversify its business and export items. She said currently Bangladesh’s main export item is readymade garments. She said her country is capable of contributing to development, telecommunications and electricity sectors in Bangladesh. As Bangladesh has a duty-free access to France, it should make the best use of this opportunity by exporting varieties of products, she opined.
A two-day French trade show was held on the 9th and 10th December. The show was aimed to boost trade and commerce between Bangladesh and France. Around 16 companies participated in the trade show held at the Le Meridien rooftop
The event was also attended by the France Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry President M Maksud, Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Embassy of France Francois Petit and Director of the Chamber Dr Rifat Rashid.
The 2nd day of the event showcased a fashion show choreographed and managed by the designer-extraordinaire, Bibi Russel, where she highlighted Bangladesh’s immense possibilities of garments and leather items by collaborating with design house Altius Moda; designers Nashra Shakhawat and Haneef; brands like Yellow and Apex; as well as showcasing her own fashion brand.
The show was followed by a lively concert and an agreement signing between the France- Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Business France to enhance the business possibilities between the two countries.
