Founder of Team Engine and Inspira, Samira Zuberi Himika stresses, “You have to be street smart.” When it comes to work, one has to have an appetite to learn on the job. “The social business sector will require you to work in various fields. On one side, you have to work with policy makers, the very next day you might have to sit with an international delegate,” says Himika. According to her, it is essential to be humble and adaptive alongside being proactive. She points out that there is a huge communication gap between global and local enterprises, and how Team Engine helps in bridging this space. She also adds that the major drawback lies in communicating properly in either Bengali or English. Himika believes that the English language can be mastered with rigorous practice. She also feels that speaking to people from other countries serves as a tool to improve one’s communication skills. “Reading newspapers and watching English news or documentaries help a lot. I learnt a lot from films and songs and speaking to other people,” mentions Himika.
The spirited Himika ends
with an advice for future prospectives, “Keep following your instincts and it will help you flourish in the corporate front.”
