With Eid comes the much anticipated Eid TV shows. This year TV audiences were spoiled for choice with the huge numbers of shows that were released on all three days of Eid. Miss Match is one of them.

Starring big names such as Jon Kabir and the beautiful Safa Kabir, it was written and directed by Imraul Rafat. The story revolves around a couple Abir and Faiza and their new marriage.
While the show looks promising it very quickly falls back on some well established clichés. Let’s start with Safa’s character Faiza. Faiza is a girl of 20 and since she lost her mother quite early she has been spoiled endlessly by daddy dearest. Which means that she can’t cook, clean and has never worn a kamiz or a sari. But Abir (played by Jon Kabir) is mesmerized nonetheless and despite warnings from his screechy sister, agrees to the marriage.

Fast forward to marriage and there is a plethora of hackneyed phrases which you could see coming from miles away. Clash between the Faiza and the shrewish sister-in-law begins which quickly festers as the show progresses.

But what is truly disappointing is the representation of Faiza. The character is seen as a hopeless young girl who has little knowledge to navigate through the minefield which are her in-laws. She is annoying and acts more like a child then a university student. From waking up late to her lack of culinary skills, all seems to be working against her and riling up the sister-in-law further still.

Abir finally succumbs to family pressure and is forced to ask Faiza to help around the house.

But after a particularly gruesome fight about continuing with her educations further Faiza under her father administrations decides to dedicate all her efforts into cooperating with her in-laws.

When a sudden appearance of an old flame threatens to destabilize the marriage, Faiza and Abir, find that their relationship is strong enough to stay afloat.
Hence while mismatch had a lot of potential, their continued efforts to show young women as helpless souls is over used. But kudos to both Jon and Safa for their wonderful acting and we hope to see much more from these terrific actors in the future.
