Golfer Siddikur Rahman on his way to putting Bangladesh on the map global map

Fortune favors the brave, they say. Things rings true for the 32-year-old Bangladeshi professional golfer, Siddikur Rahman. Rahman’s story of becoming a professional golfer is the perfect rags to riches story. From working as a forecaddie from the age of 9 to having a shot at winning the Euro Tour Win, this man is the perfect example of how pursuing your passion is not a fool’s errand.

Rahman was one of the many forecaddies at the Kurmitola golf club earning a pitiful amount of 12 cents a round. He worked to multiply his income by wagering against the other caddies for money games. The first two years of his golfing life was stuck around using only one club. Since necessity is the mother of invention, Rahman used his resourcefulness to craft for himself a handmade 7-iron.

Since then Rahman has never looked back. Soon afterwards he got selected for the Bangladesh national team in 1999 and after 12 amateur wins in Bangladesh, India and Nepal, he turned professional in 2007. His victories streak continued through the 2008 Professional Golf Tour of India, 2010 Brunei Open and 2013 Hero India Open. And he made history by qualifying as the first Bangladeshi to play golf in the Olympics.

Rahman now has the chance to make history again by winning the European Tour Event. All this over-achiever has to do is to play two more good rounds and put Bangladeshi golf in the global arena. If he wins he gets to earn $392,000 from the Porsche European Open Leaderboard. Might seem insignificant by the international golf standards, but it is still cherished by Rahman.

But despite all these accolades, Rahman has found a way to remain humble. In an article by golfweek.com, Rahman was quoted saying: “I have very high ambitions. I’m giving my best. I leave the rest to the Almighty.

God speed Siddikur Rahman! We wish you endless victories in the future.
